Installing 64-bit Microsoft Access on a 64-bit environment running 32-bit Microsoft Office

If you do much systems installation as I do, you may have become aware that the Microsoft Access Database Engine redistributable is required for Management Reporter process service to read report data from Excel workbooks. However, if Management Reporter is installed on a 64-bit environment, you must install the 64-bit version of Microsoft Access 2010 Database Engine redistributable.

See the Microsoft Access 2010 Database Engine redistributable page for more information and to download the component.

On the other hand, some specific (and widely used) features in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 require 32-bit Microsoft Office - Email and Word Templates features.

See the Technology Requirements for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 and Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 R2 Features page for more information.

To overcome the issue, this is, being able to install 64-bit Microsoft Access Database Engine redistributable, side by side with a 32-bit Microsoft Office installation, you must install the redistributable package in passive mode.

You will need to open the Command prompt (Start | Run | type CMD and press Enter) and change the path to the directory where the redistributable package was downloaded, then type the following:

64-bit Microsoft Access Database Engine redistributable installation
This should allow you to proceed with your Management Reporter 2012 installation.

Until next post!

Thanks for the post! I thought the 32-bit Access Database Engine might work. But it's not! After installing 32-bit Access engine, I got the following message-"The 32-bit version of the Microsoft Access Database Engine is installed. However, the 64-bit version must be installed to generate reports with Microsoft Excel data."

I'm facing a problem when I run the distribution query wizard of AA. The system prompts to select a data source (in a window that is in background). The client is win 7 64 bits OS with GP 10. This problem occurs with Office 32 and 64 bits. May be this related to the situation you described? thanks in advanced.

Gustavo.

Hi Mariano,
Thanks as always for your awesome posts. I have a question for you.

I have a 64 bit virtual workstation running both GP2015 and Management Reporter 2012. Should I install Office 32-bit or 64-bit?

Thanks!

Heidi,

Both apps support Office 64-bit.

Mariano, good morning!!! Installed MSDynamics SL2015 and Management Reporter 2012 on a 64 bit MsServer 2012 R2. I need to have MsOffice Pro 2010 32 bit for my Terminal Services users and run my Access databases on 32 bit without messing up Management Reporter. When trying to install the MsOffice 64 bit version a popup mentions prerequisites: Windows Identity Foundation, Microsoft Sync Framework Runtime v1.0 (x64), Microsoft Filter Pack 2.0 and Microsoft Share Point Foundation 2010. Any suggestions? Thank you
